Overview

We are seeking a skilled Project Engineer to support marine and heavy civil construction projects in the Long Beach, CA area. This position plays a critical role in daily field coordination, production tracking, and ensuring all work meets safety, quality, and project specifications.

The Project Engineer will work closely with field crews, superintendents, and project managers to plan work, monitor progress, maintain compliance, and support documentation for large-scale infrastructure and marine construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, Corps of Engineers, and company safety standards.

  • Lead and participate in field safety and quality meetings.

  • Monitor field activities for compliance with quality specifications and maintain related documentation.

  • Support superintendents and foremen with daily planning and field execution.

  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials needed for daily operations.

  • Track project progress, material quantities, and production data for reporting and payment documentation.

  • Perform field surveys for project verification and assemble as-built data, cross-sections, and maps.

  • Assist in developing project schedules and identifying potential delays or corrective actions.

  • Support project documentation, RFIs, change orders, submittals, and progress reporting.

  • Travel to out-of-town project sites as required (accommodations provided).

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Marine or Heavy Civil Construction projects.

  • Valid California drivers license with acceptable driving record.

  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong understanding of construction documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and progress payments.

  • Knowledge of safety and quality compliance standards, including EM 385-1-1.

Highly Preferred

  • Experience working on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects.

  • Familiarity with EM 385-1-1 safety and hazard identification requirements.

  • Completion of EM 385-1-1 training for Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) or Quality Control (QC) Manager roles.

  • Experience in hydrographic and topographic surveying.

  • Exposure to estimating software such as HeavyBid.
